PES 2013 review: At last, Konami gets it right...

Over recent seasons, Pro Evolution Soccer has imported an increasing amount of its DNA from fighting games. Scan PES 2013's move lists and you're left wondering if your Master League team would be better served signing Ryu over Rooney, such is the volume of button-and-stick combos for flicks, tricks, shimmies, special shots and off-the-ball manoeuvres.

While PES remains perfectly playable on lower difficulties, if you ignore all these fripperies, you're found out when you move up to the Pro levels or venture online. It's a far cry from the simple days of ISS Pro 98. However, even if you find learning Cruyff turns a turn-off, in PES 2013 there's one button that it's crucial to get to grips with, and that's R2/RT. This one button unlocks a whole new way of approaching PES, in both attack and defence, and almost singlehandedly makes 2013's offering the best of this console generation. When you're in possession, R2/RT is used to trap the ball, and, if you've timed it properly, will buy you a yard of space to prise open any defence.

PES 2013 may launch two weeks before FIFA 13

A retail source has suggested that Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 will launch two weeks before FIFA 13.
An October launch that was showcased on an advert isn't relevant anymore as Blockbuster's website is "more accurate", apparently. The retailer lists the football title for a September 14 release, with FIFA 13 hitting retail on September 28.
Pro Evolution Soccer normally launches during October after FIFA's late September release. However, if the source is to be accurate, the September release would mark the first time a PES installment has launched before FIFA ever since Pro Evolution Soccer 3's release nearly a decade ago.
The source added that Konami's CEO "is personally involved to ensure all licensing is resolved in time for this date".

PES 2012 FAN TIP: 1-ON-1 SITUATIONS

The Italian fans from “PESItalianSupport!” have created three instructive tutorial videos for PES 2012.
First up is the video with tips for mastering 1-on-1 situations as a striker.
The button descriptions in the video refer to the Xbox 360 controller. The “LB” button corresponds to the “L1” shoulder button on the PlayStation3 controller.
Select “Personal Data Settings” in the main menu and open the menu entry “Link Feints”, where you can specify the feint shown in the tutorial video.

PES 2013 - Game Modes and Features

Master league
The Master League mode, gives the user control of a team of his/her selection. Originally, the players were all generic-fictional players, however this was later changed giving the user the option to change the settings and choose to play with default players. These players have become cult figures to many people playing the Master League. The aim is to use these players and gain points by winning matches, cups and leagues. Using acquired points to purchase real players to join the team. Ultimately, one should end up with a team of skilled players.
From Winning Eleven 8, players' growth and decline curves were added, where a player's statistics may improve or decline, depending on training and age. This added a new depth to purchasing players, adding value to an up-and-coming youngster whose abilities rise dramatically and creating a trade-off if the player buys skilled but declining veterans.
Editing
Fans of the series often make "option files" and "patches" which modify all player names into those of their real life counterparts, as well as including transfers from the latest transfer window and, occasionally, altered stats of more obscure players whose in-game attributes do not precisely replicate their real life skills.

05/02/2012 | PES 2012 FAN TIP: OUTSIDE STEP OVER

The second video by the PES 2012 fans from “PESItalianSupport” explains how to shoot more goals by using the outside step over.
If you execute the outside step over in the offensive at the right time, you deceive your opponent, add additional space, and are able to shoot for goals without being disturbed.

05/06/2012 | PES 2012 FAN TIP: HOW TO DO SIDEWAYS DRIBBLES

Here is another tutorial video by the people from PESItalianSupporter.
This time, the PES fans explain in their latest video how to skillfully use R2 / RT dribbling in PES 2012 to deceive your opponent in 1-on-1 situations and shoot more goals.
To use this advanced technique of handling the ball, you press either the R2 or RT button – depending on the platform – and move the left stick up or down. After that, your player moves sideways to the left or the right along with the ball.
We recommend that you carefully practice this dribbling maneuver on the training grounds and integrate it into your PES 2012 gameplay afterwards. Your opponents will be baffled when you use this trick!
